About the Department:

Sociology Department offers both Honours Course and Generic Courses under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). General Course was introduced in the year 1981 and Major course in the year 1993. This department has record of academic achievements as our students consistently perform well in Degree Examination often securing good position. This Department organizes Field Study, Group Discussion, Workshop, Faculty Exchange Programme and Awareness Programme from time to time. Field Study is compulsory for all Honours Students as a part of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) Syllabus of Dibrugarh University. The purposes of field study are, a) to collect information about the socio-economic life of tribes b) to develop students’ knowledge and efficiency in research field. This Department has own library with more than 150 books. This Department publishes annually a wall magazine on the 5th September on the occasion of “Teachers’’ Day.
